Our Planed All Round timbers come in standard stock sizes, if you require specific dimensions head over to our Cutting Service page. PAR timbers are planed on all four faces along the length, with rough-sawn end faces.

Durability: Based on the BS EN350-2 standard, Maple boasts moderate durability. While resilient, it's most optimized for interior designs, ensuring the wood's pristine appearance is maintained.

Workability: Maple, while being robust, offers a delightfully smooth working experience. It machines cleanly, carves gracefully, and finishes in a lustrous sheen. Its predictable behavior and captivating visuals make it a go-to for intricate designs and fine craftsmanship.

Insect Attack: Maple can be a target for ambrosia beetles and wood borers. Regular checks and treatments can help deter these pests.

Fixings: Use stainless steel nails or screws with Maple to prevent staining. Pre-drilling is advised to prevent board splits.

Fire: Maple is typically classified between Euroclass F (Untested) and D-s2, d0 in fire ratings, contingent on the treatments applied.

Grades

Timber Grades 

Class A/B Mix / FAS (Recommended): FAS quality, cabinetry grade timber. Mostly no knots, with some knots spaced no less than 1m apart.

Class A / PRIME (Joinery Grade - No Knots): Our PRIME equivalent. Our highest grade of timber, carefully selected for the client. No significant knots. Ideal for the finest joinery and cabinetry, for long sections for windows, doors, furniture and claddings. 

  • Accepted: Mild grain deviation, subtle colour differences, centre splits with measurement deduction, few isolated defects
  • Not Accepted: Significant knots, erratic grain, decay, bark enclosures, extensive insect damage

Class B / COMMON (Joinery Grade - Few Knots): COMMON grade equivalent. High-quality with minimal knots spaced at least 1m apart. Ideal for furniture, joinery, and cabinetry, similar to "prime-grade" as per NHLA grading. 

  • Accepted: Gentle grain deviation, knots up to 40mm, minimum 1000mm Clear Wood Cutting, other defects outside of Clear Wood Cutting
  • Not Accepted: Erratic grain structures, decay, bark pockets, and overwhelming insect disturbances.

Class C / RUSTIC Grade. Contains more knots and imperfections, with the classic rustic appearance. Aesthetically desirable for many projects.

  • Accepted: All knots and imperfections. Centre splits with adjusted measurement.
  • Not Accepted: Decay and severe insect damage, extensive movement defects.
