C24 Spruce Structural Timber

Our C24 Spruce Structural Timber is premium-grade lumber carefully selected for load-bearing applications and structural work. Kiln-dried to achieve an optimal moisture content of 15% (±3%), this solid wood is finely planed and features precisely beveled edges for a smooth finish and easier handling during construction.

Key Features:

  • Moisture Controlled: Dried to 15% moisture content, with a tolerance of ±3%, to ensure stability and reduce the risk of shrinkage, warping, or splitting.
  • Finish: Each piece is smoothly planed, providing a clean and uniform surface ready for immediate use in projects.
  • Beveled Edges: The corners of the timber are beveled, reducing the potential for splintering and contributing to a more refined appearance and safer handling.
  • Dimensions: Cut to standard dimensions that are ideal for framing construction, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of designs and building codes.
  • Strength Class: Marked with the structural strength class C 24, certifying that it meets the high strength and stiffness requirements for demanding construction needs.

Application:

Perfect for a variety of structural projects such as:

  • Residential and commercial framing
  • Joists and beams
  • Roof trusses and floor systems

The product image displayed is for illustrative purposes only to provide a glimpse of our high-quality spruce timber. As wood is a product of nature, each piece boasts its unique patterns, grains, and hues, which is a testament to its natural beauty. No two pieces are exactly alike, and variations even within the same piece are a proof of its natural origins and not a flaw. Our C24 timber is a testament to the versatility and enduring nature of spruce as a structural material, offering both reliability and aesthetic appeal.

Grades

The structural grading of timber, including C24, is a classification that indicates the timber's strength and is essential in ensuring that the right type of timber is used for the right structural application.

C24 is a higher grade of timber according to European standards, specifically the EN 338 standard, which classifies softwood structural timber. In this classification system:

  • "C" stands for "Coniferous" (softwood), which is the type of wood used.
  • "24" indicates the strength of the timber. This number is a reference to the timber's bending strength; it means that the wood has a minimum bending strength of 24 Newtons per square millimeter (N/mm²).

Key Characteristics of C24 Graded Timber:

  1. Strength and Load-bearing: C24 timber has higher strength properties than some other grades (such as C16), which means it can bear heavier loads. This makes it suitable for more demanding structural applications where higher loads are anticipated, such as floor joists, rafters, and lintels.
  2. Quality: The timber that qualifies for C24 grading typically has fewer knots and defects than lower grades, which contributes to its strength and stability.
  3. Moisture Content: For timber to be graded C24, it also needs to have a controlled moisture content. Timber is usually kiln-dried to reduce the moisture content to a specific level, making it less prone to warping or shrinkage.
  4. Versatility: While it is strong and suitable for load-bearing structures, C24 timber is also versatile. It can be used in various types of construction projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
  5. Durability: The grading process also considers the durability of the timber. Although C24 does not specifically rate the durability, the grading process ensures that the timber is of a quality that, if correctly treated and maintained, can last for a long time in a structural capacity.

Applications for C24 Timber:

C24 timber is typically used where higher strength is needed and the timber is more visible, as it has a better appearance. It is commonly used in:

  • Flooring systems, including joists and beams
  • Roof trusses and purlins
  • Framing for residential and commercial properties
  • Decking structural components
  • Carrying heavy loads over wider spans

Regulatory Compliance:

C24 timber complies with strict standards for structural lumber, and its use is regulated by building codes and regulations. When using C24 timber in construction, it is important to ensure that the design and application comply with the relevant codes and the wood is used appropriately for its graded strength class.
